2005 Labor Day Weekend, sponsored by FIHS

The 88^th Annual Francestown Labor Day Weekend Festival will take place from Friday, September 2^nd through Monday the 5^th.

All events are sponsored by the Francestown Improvement and Historical Society (FIHS).

Holly and Mark Stanley are co-chairs for the weekend festivities; contact them if you have questions or need more information, or especially if you can volunteer to help out at any of the events.

As in past years, a contest was held to solicit ideas for the theme of this year's parade. The winning theme for this year is “Francestown Now and Then”, submitted by Laura Parker of Francestown (which earned her a cool $50!).

All residents are invited to create floats for the parade. Floats will be judged in the following categories:

Most Appropriate
Most Original
Most Humorous
Most Artistic

Best on Horse
Best on Bike
Best Walker
Best Commercial

Ribbons are awarded in each category for 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place, and for Honorable Mention. The 1^st place winner in each category also receives $25. A Grand Prize winner will be chosen from amongst all entries, and will be awarded the Grand Prize ribbon plus $50. No entry can win in more than one category.

Friday, September 2^nd
	7:30pm	Town Hall	Family Contra Dance Caller: Rich Hart Adults $6; children (under 12) $2 All ages and abilities welcome—lessons provided for beginners!
Saturday, September 3^rd
	8:00am	Selected Courts	Tennis Tournament Women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles $10 entry fee, paid in advance Sign up at the Francestown Village Store, or contact Tiffany and Dennis Calcutt at 547-2604.
	8:30pm–12:30am	Town Hall	Rock & Roll Dance with The Gigantics Tickets $7.00 at the door Teenagers welcome with parental supervision. BYOB; snacks and soda provided
Sunday, September 4^th
	10:00am	Recreation Fields (off Rt. 136)	Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament $15 entry fee Players and teams must pre-register; see rules posted at the Francestown Village Store. Contact Lisa Stewart at 547-3537
	1:00pm	Crotched Mountain Golf Club	Golf Scramble Tournament The format will be a scramble as well as “closest to the pin” and “longest drive”. Teams consist of four with a $10 entry fee, a mandatory cart fee, and $10 to participate in the contests. Look for more information at the pro shop, Village Store, or call John MacInnes at 547-9901.
	7:00pm	Old Meeting House	Annual Vesper Service Lynn Reimer and Marsha Heinzmann co-chair this annual event in which the community celebrates Francestown in music and verse. If you wish to participate, please contact Marsha Heinzmann at 547-2643.
Monday, September 5^th
	8:15am 8:45am 9:15am	Route 136	8th Annual Francestown 5 Road Race Children's race starts at 8:15am; 5k Fun Run starts at 8:45am; 5 mile (8k) race starts at 9:15am. Visit www.francestownfive.com for all the details.

	10:00am - 4:00pm	Red School	Juried Arts & Crafts Exhibit and Sale Demonstrations and sales on the lawn of the Red School (Town Office Building)
	10:00am - 2:00pm		Open Houses and Tours The Old Meeting House George Holmes Bixby Memorial Library Historical Society Rooms
	10:00am	Old Meeting House	Antique Auto Show Take in the fine vintage autos on the green at the side of the Old Meeting House. Antique vehicles are also encouraged to join in the Parade.
	11:00am 1:00pm		Harpsichord Concert Given by RP Hale, who will also demonstrate an 1895 printing press by printing images of the Old Meeting House from a wood block. These prints will be available for purchase. When this Renaissance man of many talents is not playing, he will be creating an engraving of a Francestown historic building.
	12:30pm	Town Common	Steve Dreher and Friends Family entertainment
	2:00pm	Main Street	GIANT PARADE! “Francestown Now and Then”
	3:00pm	Town Common	Temple Band Concert American’s first town band (founded in 1799), the Temple Band always provides an impressive performance.
	4:00pm	Town Common	Parade Winners Announced
	4:15pm	Town Hall	Village Cloggers High-stepping, high energy dance on the Town Hall stage
	5:30pm 6:30pm 7:30pm	Town Hall	Ham & Bean Supper To benefit the Francestown Volunteer Fire Department Adults are $6, children under 12 are $3 Tickets will be on sale from the Rescue Truck at the Horse Sheds.
