Francestown's Annual Labor Day Festival In 1917, a group of local Francestown women put together the town's first Labor Day Celebration (then called the Red Cross Carnival) to benefit Red Cross war efforts. This special tradition has continued and evolved to support important town projects, sponsored by the Francestown Improvement & Historical Society (FIHS). Francestown residents young and old volunteer their time, energy and creativity to create a fantastic weekend of events. With something to appeal to everyone, we hope you can join us in our beautiful, historical village in the Monadnock region of southern New Hampshire. Festivities start Friday evening with the Family Contra Dance, and culminate on Monday with a big parade (a different theme each year, with prizes awarded in many categories). In between there is the Tennis Tournament; the Rock 'n Roll Dance; the Mud Volley Ball Tournament; the Golf Scramble; Vespers at the Old Meetinghouse; the Francestown Five Road Race; a Juried Arts and Crafts Exhibit and Sale; tours of the Library, the Old Meetinghouse, and FIHS Historical Rooms; food, snacks, refreshments, and baked goods; children's games; the White Elephant; Rummage Sale; Plants and Produce; Music and Entertainment; and the Fireman's Supper.
